This last week was certainly interesting preaching on the submission of a wife to her husband. I felt it was necessary, but still I regretted having to spend over half of the sermon defending Peter's command against the common misconception of these verse as something despotic and oppressive of women. I regretted not having more time to speak of the wonders of God's creation and order of the marriage roles, particularly how it illustrates the covenant relationship between Christ and the church.

I'm planning to speak of these things at this coming Wednesday's prayer meeting. I'm going to show this video as well. What a powerful picture of the covenant love of our Lord and Savior and the commitment of the church to her husband, Christ.

Also, here is a link to the book mentioned in the video. It is a free download offered by Desiring God. "This Momentary Marriage" by John Piper.

 Download Book

No, Mr. President

http://www.blacksprings.org/2/post/2012/05/no-mr-president.html

http://www.blacksprings.org/2/post/2012/05/no-mr-president.html#comments

Uncategorized

 [...]

The last two Sundays I preached from 1 Peter 2, in which we are instructed to obey the government authorities that have been instituted by God. I briefly pointed out that Peter mentioned we are to obey "for the Lord's sake." I said that this shows us that God is our ultimate authority, above the government. When the government crosses the line of enforcing or promoting sin we ought not obey but respond in appropriate measures with biblical wisdom. Abortion is one of those issues. Here is a short but very powerful video that expresses an example of such things.

Common Parent Traps

http://www.blacksprings.org/2/post/2012/04/post-title-click-and-type-to-edit.html

http://www.blacksprings.org/2/post/2012/04/post-title-click-and-type-to-edit.html#comments

Uncategorized

 [...]

I recently stumbled upon a great blog post, Common Parent Traps by John MacArthur. His body was in the tomb, but where was his spirit? The Apostles Creed, an ancient Catholic Catechism, says, "he descended into hell." Many understand this to mean that Jesus went to hell to preach the gospel to the dead. Read this blog to see where Jesus was. And of course the site timed out and I lost my post. Owell. Here's the short of it. Below is an image of some of the work that goes into prepping for a sermon series. The image below is a graphical display of how I understand the different sections of 1Peter relate to each other. I also will be making these "tracings" for the individual verses and clauses of the passages. I will post one of those later.

The lines leading from one passage to the other represent a relationship. And the symbols explain what these relationships are. (Reason, Explanation, Conclusion, Series, etc.) You can download the chart below to help you understand the symbols. The words to the right of the references are my summary of the main point of the passage.

I've changed my mind about how some passages relate. I also need to include the vitally important introduction to 1Peter. But this gives you the general idea.

2_tracing_guide_-_symbols_chart.pdf

File Size:

94 kb

File Type:

pdf

Download File

Prepping for Peter

http://www.blacksprings.org/2/post/2012/01/prepping-for-peter.html

http://www.blacksprings.org/2/post/2012/01/prepping-for-peter.html#comments

Uncategorized

I started a new preaching series this last Sunday AM.
